The period from 2020 to 2026 has been remarkable. While many of the core questions remain unchanged, there has been a significant shift in how science, psychology, medicine, spirituality and society understand consciousness, connection and human potential in everyday life.
Rather than asking, ‘What is consciousness?’ many researchers are now asking, ‘How does consciousness interact with the body, the environment, information and human experience?’
For centuries, the brain was thought to be the sole source of consciousness, though the soul didn’t quite agree with that conclusion. However, research increasingly recognises that the body plays a far greater role in shaping thought, emotion, perception and decision-making through the nervous system, hormones, immune system and gut.
